New TV Series on Café Racers Adds “Cool” to the Boob Tube Hot

Are you tired of soap opera-styled motorcycle building shows?  You know what I’m talking about – TV shows that focus more on staged family feuding and pseudo-deadlines than the art of motorcycle building.  Then you add the fact that these shows, more often than not, feature glorified bolt-on components and flashy paint rather than real design and fabrication.

Well, hope is on the horizon.  On October 13, the new series - Café Racer - airs on The Discovery Channel.  There is not much in the motorcycling world that is cooler than a one-of-kind café racer.  The appeal here is the uniqueness and diversity.  Café racers are built around any engine configuration, not just the overexposed V-twin.  On the series, I am sure we’ll see singles, parallel twins, triples and even a few fours.

The show will feature “visionary motorcycle builders” in the United States and England.  The producers say they are looking for the “perfect combination of style and speed.”  The high definition series will feature celebrity enthusiasts like musician Billy Joel and actor Jason Lee.  That’s all well and good, but what really piqued my interest is that Super-bike racing brothers Ben and Eric Bostrom will test ride some of the creations.  The inclusion of the speedy siblings adds another level of credibility and cool to the show.

You can learn more about the new show and see the trailer video at CafeRacerTV.com.
