The Wanker Files: State of Iowa Hot

map_iaThis month's nomination for the Wanker Files is Iowa. That's right, the whole state is on my radar because of the atrocity of not protecting their young. The state has no required helmet law for kids that are barely toddlers.

Say what you want about goofy people that choose not to wear helmets, but when a whole state puts kids at risk by letting them ride on the back of a bike with no helmet law in place, someone should burn for it. You can have your child taken from you if they are not in a car seat, so why is it not the same for a motorcycle?

Motorcyclists are more at risk than any other motorist on the road, and no one does anything about it. Maybe there’s not enough money in the motorcycle industry for the government to make any money off of it, so they say, "Just let them do whatever they want." And then, you add kids into the mix, now saying, "We don’t even need to protect the kids that can’t protect themselves." Come on people, will someone please grow a set and make a law that sticks?

Are we so far into the bureaucratic BS that we’ve come to a halt on making decisions that better our way of life and keep us and our children safer?

Iowa, you’ve been officially Wanked. Herbert Hoover and Ashton Kutcher would be dissapointed in you.

Say what you want but I am against any helmet laws. Here in Colorado they recently passed the under 18 law. I tried all I could to stop it and here is why. I have 2 daughters 19, 15. I as their father am trying to instill in them that THEY need to make sound decisions about their safety. By enacting this law they are being taught that “Big Brother” is in control of their choice. I have always required them to wear a helmet as DAD’S law. I believe that the rider needs to decide what is appropriate for them. I do not like the government to dictate what I should wear for my protection. I spent 8 years in the military and had to follow their rules on personal safety equipment and I can tell you that no amount of safety equipment will prevent an accident.

What's the big deal? so Iowa doesnt have a helmet law for under 18yrs old.
First, You can't legislate out stupid..
And Second, what's difference if today they are 17yrs old, and have to wear a helmet and being 18 tomorrow and don't have have to?
RODDEN'S you just made MY wanker list since you obviously don't have anything better to write about..
Get a "f'kin" life

Helmet laws are just fine. As for the Dad that teaches them to wear a helmet, congrats to you! But how many children, probably still in High school, are going to wear that Helmet when Dad is not in sight! We were all under the age of eighteen at sometime, and I know for a fact, that helmet would come off as soon as I was out of sight of my dad.As for being told what to do by the so called Big Brother, sometimes that is not a bad thing. No you cannot prevent an accident, but wouldn't feel safer knowing your child is protecting the most important part of their body, I do! As for IOWA, I hope somebody in the legislature will become aware of this. Last I checked, Illinois has the same law!

Once again, you expect the state to protect us from ourselves. It isn't the state's place to protect children, it's the parents' responsibility. You're a statist lemming. I wish you well in your endeavors, but I now bid you farewell. Return to the semi-socialist nanny state that spawned you.. if that crap worked there, you wouldn't have moved here. Now you're bringing it with you.

And again I say, if you want to be a writer, please learn to write.
