Motorcycle School in W. Virginia Lets Riders Push Their Bikes to the Max Hot

Summit_Point_TrackHave some spare time to kill? On Thursday, May 27th, the Summit Point Raceway at Summit Point Motorcycle Park is letting bikers push their motorcycles to the limit -- riders can go as fast as they want from 7am to 5pm. The event is part of the Xcitement Track Days and Road Racing School's calendar, and similar shindigs will be scheduled shortly.

“Xcitement Track Days is a venue where you can take a street motorcycle or racing motorcycle and ride it on the racetrack with help from friendly coaches,” said Roger Lyle, owner and president of Motorcycle Xcitement Track Days and Road Racing School.

You can reach high speeds on the racetrack without a speeding ticket,” he continued. “If you would do this on the street, you will get an expensive speeding ticket and could lose your license.”

Lyle also said that he has reached speeds as high as 163 mph on the track, while riding his Bimota.

Riders must be at least 16-years-old to participate, and between 75-100 people typically show up to push their bikes to the limit at these events. Spectators can come and watch the track for free, but riders have to pay a $200 registration fee. For more information, call Roger Lyle at (301) 933-2599 or check out the Xcitement website.

Riders can go as fast as they want from 7am until 5pm? Without any structure and/or training, just "help from friendly coaches"? This sounds suspiciously similar to a track day, but more expensive ($200!!?) and less structured. Am I missing something?
