A little over a week ago, we told you about Connecticut's pending legislation that would make motorcycle training courses a requirement for getting a motorcycle license in the state. Well, it passed the state House of Representatives on Monday.
The course, which costs $200, is certainly an expensive hurdle for would-be bikers to jump, especially in this economy. "I love the intent of the underlying bill because I think that everyone should be trained,'' said Rep. Pamela Sawyer (R), who has been riding motorcycle for the past 30 years. "In my heart of hearts, I love the underlying intent of this bill. But I've got a fiscal concern.''
After a lengthy debate, the House ended up voting in favor of the bill with bipartisan support, 117-31. However, due to a technical change, the bill must now go back to the Senate (which already passed the previous version of the legislation). Currently, the state has 200,000 motorcyclists on the roadways.
So, we're now going to kick the debate back to you readers. Ya'll are certainly an opinionated bunch, so let us have it: what do you think of this type of legislation? Is it a good idea to make motorcycle training a mandatory requirement of getting a motorcycle license?
