The Americade and a taste of the Adirondacks

Albany New York really is a gateway to some of the most beautiful roads in the Northeastern United States. And I was lucky enough to be invited to come along and sample them at this year’s Americade Motorcycle Rally, situated on beautiful Lake George in the heart of the Adirondack Mountains.
The thing that stunned me most was the amount of motorcycles around. I have heard in the past rumors of as many as 50,000 people visiting the event, although I don’t think it was that many this year, but it certainly was a lot.
The good thing about this event is the fact that everyone really goes out and explores the countryside, and not on one genre of machine. You see Cruisers mixing it with Sport bikes, and Trike’s are well represented too, and with roads that lead from scenic Lake George into Vermont and north to Lake Placid you really have some wonderful places to visit and ride to.
The other great thing about Americade is all of the events. At any given time of the day or evening there is something to go and see. Whether it is the Balloon Glow on Wednesday evening, demo rides, fashion shows, parties and scavenger hunts, or anything, you name it, you can be as busy as you want to be, or you can just ride on the great roads until your heart’s content.
We based ourselves at Roaring Brook Ranch, the site of the headquarters of Americade, Kawasaki and other manufacturers at the event. Most of the demo runs started there and it seemed to be a good central meeting area. Once we got on the open road we really never encountered many delays. Even with some motorcycle clubs passing us with in excess of 150 bikes, everyone kept up a good pace.
I have to say I can’t recommend this event enough. So put it on your calendar for next year and make sure you experience it for yourself.
Watch for AllAboutBikes in the vendor’s area next year.
