Franklin, in North Carolina, is one of the most beautiful places in the United States to ride your motorcycle. Franklin sits in the middle of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, provides easy access to the Blue Ridge Parkway, and is just miles from legendary rides like the Dragon's Tail in Deals Gap, NC.
The Town of Franklin Tourism Development Authority has just decided that they will try to take advantage of the town's great location. The TDA announced on Monday that they are planning to host a three day motorcycle rally next year in Franklin.
Macon News reports that the TDA has been debating a motorcycle rally in Franklin for the last few years. One side is arguing that a rally, which Thunderwind Publishing president Sylvia Cochran, one of the main promoters of the event, insists on calling a fest, will bring in big business for the small North Carolina town. The other side says that raucous motorcycles could give the family friendly town a black eye.
TDA Chairman Candy Arvey said that the event is tentatively scheduled for August 17th-19th, which will be the week after the Sturgis Motorcycle rally.
