The 2010 Goodwood Revival is scheduled to take place this coming weekend, 17 – 19 September 2010, at the Goodwood Motor Circuit outside of Chichester, UK. Celebrated this year will be motorcycles from the golden era of two-wheeled racing - late 1940’s through the 1950’s. The event organizers had so much success back at the 2008 edition running motorcycles from this period that they decided to do it again – and, don’t forget, that meet was created to honor the first all-motorcycle race at Goodwood back in 1951.
Goodwood always brings out the best for their visitors and this year will be no exception. Scheduled to line up on the grid are bikes like a 1948 Gilera Saturno, historic Norton Manx and Dominators, BSA Gold Stars, Triumphs, Vincents, and even some rare race-bred BMWs. Riding these drool-worthy machines will be racing legends Wayne Gardner, eight-time TT winner Charlie Williams, and Paul Smart. They will be joined by some modern-era pilots as well; Jeremy McWilliams, James Haydon, Steve Brogan and others as yet unannounced will compete against the old-school heroes on the machines which made their forbears famous.
The race format consists of one race each on Saturday and Sunday with results being cumulative and based on aggregate
timing. And, both races will have a Le Mans-style running start which will no doubt make things much more interesting when starting such classic machines. To make it even more of a challenge, the owners of the bikes will also be required to ride their machines in the races switching off with one of the professional racers on hand in the pit.
The weekend will award the Barry Sheene Memorial Trophy to the overall winner.
