Mika Aloha has passed away. The five time Enduro champion suffered severe internal injuries following a training accident in Spain. Aloha spent a few weeks in the hospital but succumbed to his injuries this morning. Ahola was 37.
Cyril Despres was able to hold on to the lead during the final stage of the 2012 Dakar to claim his fourth victory in seven years. KTM's winning streak is even more impressive. KTM has one the last 11 Dakar Rallies.
If Cyril Despres can make it through the final stage of the 2012 Dakar rally without his incident, he'll claim his fourth championship in seven years. Despres was able to gain a 12 minute lead over his title rival Marc Coma today during the penultimate stage of the Dakar rally.
There's good news and there's bad news. The good news is that John Hopkins won't have to deal with his troublesome injury during the 2012 season. The bad news is that he'll have to compete with just nine fingers. Hopkins had the top of his right middle finger amputated after numerous surgeries and complications that plagued the rider since his crash at BRNO in 2011.
