This year marked the 70th anniversary of perhaps the most popular gatherings of unfit bikers in the world, Daytona Bike Week. Over 500,000 motorcycles (and the people that pilot them) cluttered the highways, byways, bars, and side streets, revving their way into the hearts of residents for one more year.
Attendance for this year’s Daytona 200, like every year, was crap. I might have been able to start a flag football team with the amount people in the stands. This is one place where the AMA bites it hard. They should try and get off the self righteous AMA bandwagon and make the races about the racers, and not the oh so mighty AMA. Nobody outside of racing knows who Jason DiSalvo is because the AMA doesn’t tell any story. He’s a racer for the AMA. That’s it? Awesome.
My very first bike was a Ninja 250. I thought I was the coolest kid on the block; revving at 14grand to go a blistering 110mph down the highway. At 220 pounds, a tank slapper on a 250 going 100 is not something any rider should experience. If you haven't, don't. (Unless you're packing a new set of knickers.)
