Are You Indelibly Loyal to Your Motorcycle Brand? Hot

TatDucI am not a tattoo guy. Likewise, I am not a big fan of some of the biker culture’s obsession with morbid, skull and bones body ink. Don’t get me wrong, I’m all for personal expression. It’s just not my thing. However, I saw something at a recent motorcycle event that struck me.

It was a guy with a big Triumph motorcycle tattoo on his forearm. This got me thinking – as much as I love motorcycles, would I ever have the level of commitment to a single marquee that I would make the relationship…well, permanent? For me, the short answer is no. I have owned and enjoyed Ducatis, Triumphs, Nortons, BMWs, Guzzis, and every Japanese brand.

There have even been times that I thought I would stick permanently to a single brand. The problem is I am an experimenter. In my motorcycling eyes, the grass is always greener. I have never been able to stick to a single brand or even nationality of motorcycle.

However, you have to have some modicum of respect for someone who displays their love for a brand with an indelible body display. Think about it – if you are sporting a Ducati tattoo, could you be seen on a Yamaha? If you have Harley eagle on your arm, could you still pilot a BMW?

My son has a tattoo professing his love for his “Mamma.” That’s a familial bond that will never be broken. He also rides a Suzuki. If he’s anything like me, that motorized relationship will only last until he sees a new, more interesting ride.

Anyway, here are some of the more unique motorcycle brand tattoos that I have found. The question to you is – would you ever feel compelled to brand yourself with a…brand?

Interesting how a brand tattoo is seem by many, particularly the "inked" ones, as the ultimate expression of freedom, while for the marketing managers it is nothing but free advertising of the best kind. Brand loyalty to the max. So what is it?
Corporate manipulation of the nth degree, or
Total emancipation from the status-quo.
The jury is out.
But really, who cares?
Enjoy your tattoos!!
