Down Under on Two Wheels, Ladies Only!

11QueenstownImagine cruising on your motorcycle, in a pack of lady riders, past penguins, volcanoes, through rainforests, by oceans and glaciers all in one trip. Sound like a far-fetched dream? Well it’s not! Towanda Women Motorcycles Tours is a tour provider for women by women.  The company is based in New Zealand, but offers outlets in Australia, the USA, Germany and Switzerland.

The company provides access to a wide selection of rental motorcycles from Ducati’s to Yamahas to enjoy the trip on.  During the trips, groups stay at a mixture of motel, holiday villas, B&B or guesthouses, riders also enjoy meals together at local establishments.

The lady tour guides are a eclectic bunch of riders from all over the world; each woman seems to possess many special skills beyond riding.  The tours are constructed to truly appreciate the cultural diversity of each location, taking full advantage of all things local. The tours also are environmentally conscience, with a focus on preservation and education about the beautiful natural wonders riders will enjoy. Towanda Women support a handful of environmental organizations like “Kiwi at Risk” a organization that counters the plummeting Kiwi bird population in New Zealand.  Towanda also supports Greenpeace Aotearoa which aims to protects the animals, oceans and climate of New Zealand.

With a thoughtful organization and passionate tour guides, it seems Towanda Women offer the ride of a lifetime. Rides span from 10-19 days and are offered throughout the year. The next rides are slated for Alaska –a tour actually coordination with members of Alaska’s “Laughing Ravens” (Women on Wheels Alaska Chapter) and a South Island Cruising Tour in New Zealand. The South Island tour includes whale watching, a wildlife tour that features penguins, seals and sea lions, glaciers, rainforests and even a optional off-road tour.  I can’t decide what sounds more exciting, but cross my fingers I find myself on a Towanda ride one of these day.
