Hammarhead Industries of Philadelphia, PA is quickly making its mark on the custom motorcycle scene. More precisely, it is the man behind the company, James Hammarhead, who is turning heads with his steady output of sparse, classically-inspired customs. His recent work includes the “Jack Pine” Triumph Scrambler, the “Woodsman EFI” Royal Enfield Bullet, and the “Volta 102”: an electric bike also based on the Royal Enfield Bullet.

Just last month, James headed up to New York City where he built a custom Triumph Bonneville at the Dunderdon SoHo shop. Each Thursday over the course of three weeks an event was held where guests could come check out James’ handiwork.

Hammarhead isn’t only limited to custom bikes. The company also offers a line of rugged motorcycle gear that we are going to take a look at today.

HHI Welder’s Jacket

You could ride to hell and back in this jacket. The 1.3 mm suede from cow split leather is optimized to protect you from all the dangers of the work shop and the road. Whether you’re raining sparks on yourself in the garage or playing slip-and-slide on asphalt, this jacket will keep your skin intact.

The jacket is styled after the classic welder’s jacket with a high collar and adjustable cuffs. It’s been stitched together with Kevlar thread and rivets hold down every seam ending and pocket corner. The leather has been hand-waxed for superior protection and a great look.

When it comes to stowing your belongings on a ride, this jacket comes with plenty of storage. You’ve got two zippered pockets on the front that’ll be handy in the shop and a large internal pocket for keeping items like your wallet and phone close to you on rides.

HHI Day Pack

Hammarhead’s day pack was designed for the rider who likes to pack efficiently. The bag is minimal, but spacious enough for all your modern-day gadgets, including laptops, iPads, and kindles. It’s perfect for anyone that commutes on their bike and prefers to carry only the essentials.

Like everything else that Hammarhead creates, this pack will probably outlive you. The bag is constructed out of waterproof waxed cotton, black leather, and parachute hardware – all domestically sourced.

Not too surprisingly, this has been one of Hammarheads most popular items. Due to a high demand for the pack, and the fact that each one is made to order, they take about 8 to 10 weeks to ship out.

HHI VMX Gloves

Hammarhead has designed their own stylish gloves that are classic in looks, but modern in construction. The full grain deer skin gloves were made in the USA by Churchill Gloves and are available in three different colors: natural with black trim, black with natural trim, and all black.

While they might not offer the same protection as some of today’s bulkier options, they embody a spirit of simplicity and functionality found in every Hammerhead product. These gloves are more than just a slight nod to the glory days of motocross and will be welcomed by anyone who’s burnt out on the flashy colors and designs of most contemporary gear.

Ordered day pack on 14 May, they charged my credit card on 16 May, never received backpack. Sent email asking status, no response. Wouldn't suggest this company to anyone else.
