A Luxury Electric Motorcycle? Meet the Sora

soraTwo of the biggest reasons why people ride motorcycles are to go fast and to go far. It’s these two essential aspects of riding that have held electric motorcycles within the confines of a niche market. But those walls may soon be broken. If the Sora lives up to its expectations, the future of electric motorcycles may have just arrived.

The Sora, made by LITO Green Motion, has a pretty impressive spec sheet. The Sora will get 300 km (185 miles) per charge, can reach a top speed of 200 kph (125 mph) and has enough torque to hit that top speed as quick as you can pull back the throttle.

Here are some of the key features of the Sora:

  1. An energy storing, integrated charge management system. Ride for up to 300 km on a single charge thanks to the top-of-the-line, high-density battery — built to last for the life of the bike.
  2. A powerful electric motor and CVT transmission. Experience the power of going 0-200 km/h with zero clutch and phenomenal torque that makes you feel like you're flying on the road.
  3. A patented Safe Range System™. With this revolutionary application you will never experience range anxiety. Just set your destination the Sora will manage the amount of energy to get you there.
  4. State-of-the-art integrated GPS system and touch screen.
  5. The world's first ever electric motorbike seat. Change your ride handling on the fly
  6. High-quality front fork and rear suspension and top-of-the-line braking, designed to let you stop faster than on almost any other superbike.
  7. An on-board charging port and sealed lockable storage compartment.
  8. Patented email notification when the SORA charge is complete.
  9. A regenerative braking system. Energy lost during braking is used to recharge the battery, so you can travel further in a single charge.
  10. Lightweight carbon fiber fairing and aluminum chassis. Aircraft grade materials, stronger, lighter, faster.

Sounds a little too good to be true? Well, the Sora does have a few draw backs. First, the bike takes about 8 hours to get a full charge. Which works perfectly as a daily commuter, but makes longer trips a little difficult.
The Sora also has a price tag close that is close to $45,000, so it isn’t exactly your every man’s type of bike.Sora does say, however, that you’ll save about a grand a year on gas and maintenance, and depending on where you live you can also get tax incentives.

The Sora may not be the perfect electric motorcycle, but it is a step in the right direction.

the brammo is around $8000 but only can do about 60 miles on a charge...

Batteries are always the most important feature of any electric vehicle....GOOD ones are not cheap !
