The rider safety course I enrolled in had a female and a male instructor; this helped ease my nerves. I was sure the female rider would sympathize with my timid approach to street bikes.

The course was held over two weekends, and would equate to 15 hours of instruction time. There was a classroom section and a hands on riding section. At the end of the course I would be tested on my knowledge and riding ability.

This year's AMA International Women & Motorcycling Conference will take place from July 26th to the 29th in Carson City, Nevada. AMA members can save $50 by registering online before April 30, 2012. The conference is an opportunity for motorcyclists from all walks of life to connect and learn from each other and enjoy the comaraderie shared by people who ride -- in this case mostly women.

Natalie Pack was recently crowned Miss California but the 22-year-old junior from UC Irvine says that she's never really been into pageants. Instead, Pack says that she grew up as a tomboy and spent most of her time riding motorcycles.

Josh Hayes won the AMA Superbike championship this year, Danny Eslick won the Daytona Sportbike championship, and Ryan Villopoto won both the AMA Motocross and AMA Supercross championships this year. But none of the AMA champions had more impact on the motorcycling world than motorcycle activist Nancy Sabeter.
