Dainese Opens Doors for Female Riders Hot

The evening of Thursday, August 19th will be all about women at the Dainese store in Costa Mesa. The store itself is a motorcyclists fantasy of superior leather, perfectly body-molding armor and pure motorcycle imagination; so I feel it’s a magical place to host a women’s night. The night is sponsored by Powerlily, a ever growing network of women who are involved in powersports and features a presentation by female rider, photographer and author, Christina Shook.

A Powerlily member herself, Shook recently authored a book called Chicks on Bikes.  Through her perceptive photographs Shook paints a picture of several real life motorcycle chicks and their lives with their bike.  The book alone inspired me, so I can’t wait to see what she’s going to talk about at the Dainese store.  In addition to Shook’s presentation the night will provide seminars, music, food and drink and discounts on that covet-worthy Dainese gear.  Riders are encouraged to bring a non-riding friend since it’s a great low-pressure environment for women to learn about motorcycles.

The Powerlily night at the Dainese store is a great sign for current women riders and future women riders. While men may grow up in a environment that allows them to understand motorcycle, currently a typical upbringing for a female in America does not include learning about motorcycles, leaving no natural segue to break into the sport.  In addition to upbringing women normally have no motorcycle support system of friends to help them into the sport as well. Night like women’s night at the Dainese store create a great deal of female camaraderie and show women riders their not alone, which always inspires me.

Do you have a female friend who’s been itching to ride, but just can’t seem to muster the initiative to sign up for a MSF course? If you’re in SoCal at the end of August bring them to the Dainese store and see if they get inspired.
