Competitive Riding for Women Hot

Elena-Myers-ama-superbike-1If you have been cruising around on two wheels for a while and get the itch to compete; there are plenty of ways to break into a wide variety of competitive platforms for women riders.  While most competitive circuits are co-ed and invite men and women to compete together, there are some women only platforms to assist women in gaining the skills and confidence to compete with any crowd.

If you’re looking to get into road racing it’s best to find a track day organization to help guide and motivate you. Track Day groups help organize “package” track days, sometimes you can even rent track suits and race boots on the big day. Normally these track days are the cheapest, easiest way to hit the track for beginners. Plus the added benefit of riding with a group is great for tips and role models. Femmoto is a all female racing organization, for inspiration or advice on approaching track days or racing hit up femmoto to find a female racer in your area. In terms of competitive racing, the AMA road racing season has been exciting for lady racers as Elena Myers became the first female rider to win a AMA road racing event.

Perhaps competing on dirt is more your style, in which case you’ll find ample opportunities to compete in the Women’s Motocross Championship. From California to Pennsylvania the competitions run from May to September. Perhaps you’re not ready to race with some of the best female motocross riders on the planet in which case you could head out to the Women’s School of Motocross for a group or private lesson. On the track or on the trail the Women’s School of Motocross covers skills like corners, jumps, whoops, braking, starts and the mental approach to all of it.

113009-ludivine-puyIf Enduro racing is more your style you will find plenty of co-ed opportunities to represent women all over the world. Canada's Premier 2 Day National Enduro has seen more and more women hit the dirt and even had a female Champion in 2009. Also, last year, FIM created the Women’s Enduro World Cup with three rounds in Italy, Poland and France.

Finally if two wheels don’t cut it for you and you desire to compete on one, XDL Championship Series introduced the Sartso Women’s Cup to their 2010 Freestyle Sportbike competition this year. While the female stunt community is currently very small, the Sartso Cup is inspiring women all over the world as lady stunters show-off their freestyle moves at the event.

Each of these platforms and category of motorcycle competition, whether co-ed or women only has seen significant growth in recent years. With women competitors becoming more and more visible the community will only grow and strengthen. Women competitors are rapidly breaking down barriers, altering perceptions and following their dreams all at the same time. So if you’re hankering to step up on a podium after you’re finished riding, take your pick, put in work and hit the circuit!
