A magazine just for female riders from Australia is a first for the world, reporting exclusively on women in motorcycling. Chix Moto Bikes Magazine became available February of 2010 and has released two issues since then. The publication aims to support female riders and is available online. The Chix Moto mission is to build a powerful network for women in motorsports.
The magazine will cover stories on Australia’s top female riders, mechanical ideas, apparel and gear, MX news and what female riders are doing all over the country. Considering most motorcycle magazines on the stands today are written from a male’s perspective, this could be a nice shift in tone for female riders. The magazine also offers a kids section which is great if you’re a family of riders or want to be a family of riders.
The magazine is still in development and the editor seems excited to integrate as many suggestions and ideas from the female riding community as possible, after all the magazine was created just for them! Regarding the creation of the magazine the editor wrote, “Every once in awhile you think to yourself, why hasn't someone done that yet or when are they going to do it.” Unlike so many people, she moved forward with her pondering and created the first female magazine and props to her.
While I am never one for complete segregation, if the social norm is not giving fair attention to a minority demographic, something must be done! Chix Moto Bikes Magazine is definitely a great step towards equalizing the gender representation in this great sport of motorbikes.
