Riding on a track is a fun experience and it does not have to be intimidating.  A lot of motorcycle riders just head out to the track and drive without putting much preparation into it.  This can be dangerous, and it is really best if you put some time and thought into your preparation routine.  There are some simple procedures that will greatly improve your safety and help you keep your bike from being damaged as well.  As always, being in control makes all the difference.
Before you get in line to start your track day, take a moment to review your bike and equipment.  Check to see that everything is in place and working properly.  Tie up your boots, clean your visor, and perform any equipment maintenance that might be necessary.  While you are trying to have fun out on the track, a motorbike is a serious piece of equipment and you need to prepare yourself for the hard riding that you are about to do.  This is very different from cruising on the street.  Track day riding can be intense and even dangerous if you do not appreciate the situation you are in.
You need to take plenty of time to warm up when you are out on track day.  After getting mentally prepared, the bikes will need to be warmed up as well.  Ask anyone in the sport bike industry and they will tell you how important it is to warm up motorcycles before racing them around a track.  Crashing on cold tires or cold brakes is a common problem, so take the steps to avoid it.  Tires stick to the track better when they are warm, and brakes stop better too.  The engine and all the components of your bike need to heat up to the proper temperature before going for a hard ride on the track.
Let the bike run to warm up as you wait to get on the track.  Then take the first lap on track day at a nice easy pace.  This will get you and your bike ready for the more intense laps to come.  Take the first few corners slowly while using the brakes gently.  Accelerate lightly and then more heavily as you make your way around the track.  As your bike warms up, so will you.  Work on picking your line and getting your brain ready for the rest of the ride.  After you have done all this, you will be set to hit the throttle and have a great track day.
