but just updating my first one.......
I was on the track this weekend wearing a borrowed SHIFT full leather race suit when I high sided coming out of a turn onto the straight away.....
I hit the ground hard and slid.....
the SHIFT suit saved my hide without question
I'm pretty banged up
but the suit saved me big time!
I would really love to sport the SHIFT name now even moreso after having it to thank for how I came through this crash....

Nothing like...
written by Barb H. , April 20, 2010

Nothing like a little accident to wake you up and make you aware of how better gear can save your butt, your face, your skin. It's no fun going over your handlebars and skidding across someone's front lawn on your face and front, only to wonder how did I get here; all because of a little loose gravel on the edge of the road. My helmet looked like a football player's helmet when they're tackle hard into the ground, grass and dirt hanging off it and there is so much stuff in the zipper of my jacket, I don't think it will ever zip again. Granted, better gear wouldn't have prevented the accident but I might have had a few less bruises. So I have to replace the leather jacket anyways, so it seems like a fine time to try a better quality of jacket and why not shift into a Shift. (Smooth, huh!) Plus the new jacket will look great with my new bike!
Happy ending to this story... always wear your helmet and a good jacket!

my partner desperatly needs 1 of your jackets as his bike jacket was nicked from a pub 1 night a while ago, he is now riding round in a second hand 1 his mate gave him but that is coming apart at the sides, we do loads of fundraising for different charities and we keep trying to save up to get a new jacket but there is always a new bill that comes in before he has a chance to buy a new 1, i would be so grateful if he could win 1 of your jackets, thanks midge

What a mess!
written by kurt kidder , April 13, 2010

Headed down the road on a calm and sunny spring day not a care on my mind when out of nowhere comes a swarm of d*** honey bees. No way to avoid just time to duck my head and shut my mouth(helmet on no visor). The jacket I was wering was no protection from being target practice for a 1000 bugs and definetly not worth cleaning (it's very gross and sticky). So any how a new jacket would be way cool.

Ok, so I thought I would be a great candidate for this jacket giveaway. I was wrong. After reading the previous posts; I am not in need of the giveaway. Others are much more deserving.

I am well aware that Shift is one of, if not the, best protective gear makers out there. It has been my intention for a long time to eventually purchase one of your jackets. I am very pleased that you will be giving one to a very deserving rider.

Thank you for doing this.

Shift...
written by Moto Manny , April 08, 2010

True riding is about enthusiasm... passion... and fun; and it takes a special organization to be able to embrace this in a way that speaks directly, and honestly to that end. Real motorcyclists will be the first to call foul on a company that's just toting a line for purpose of making money, and it's obvious that AllAboutBikes, and Shift Racing, are the real deal.

A true moto-enthusiast doesn't talk down to a make, model, or style of riding. Rather s/he embraces it as part of the family. A rider doesn't laugh (out loud anyway) at the guy riding in flip-flops and neon shorts, but rather engages him/her in a conversation about safety gear, road rash, and brain damage. S/He doesn't put down new riders, instead taking them under a wing, and showing them the right way. And s/he does it all with a sheepish grin, having a blast the whole time, 'cause riding... riding anything, is fun.

You can see this dedication in the articles you're reading, and in the gear you're seeing here. Information, education, and multiple smiles per minute (spm) keep the reader engaged. And durable materials, tough construction, and cutting edge design, all born of racing passion, keep the rider engaged (and protected).

My old jacket is a hand-me-down from my big brother who helped bring me into this two-wheeled world. It a form fitting, properly armored, reflective paneled, ballistic nylon shroud that's seen thousands and thousands of miles go by. And there's not a thing wrong with it... except its age, easily 15 years old now. Nylon weave gets loose, reflective coatings break down, zippers function a bit chunky, and foam armor gets spongy over time (not unlike the rider, huh?). I wont replace this jacket, I'll just retire it. And I hope, in another 15 years, I can retire my Shift Avenger.

Shift your attitude, Shift your ride, Shift your passion, Shift your enthusiasm... and you'll Shift your life, and those riding around you.

I don't wanna look like everyone else when on my bike. I ride sanely most of the time, but I speed up for nice corners. smilies/smiley.gif I have been looking for a different brand of jacket to wear during the spring and summer months and it looks like the SHIFT Avenger Jacket would be the perfect choice! My current jacket is just a standard leather jacket that doesn't offer the CE armor or preshaped form-fit-function that the SHIFT Avenger Jacket provides. Other than it being well made and providing awesome protection, it looks killer! Pick me Pick me!! smilies/smiley.gif

NEW SHIFT'N INTO GEAR... 4-7-10
written by Eric , April 08, 2010

4-7-10

First of all this is the first time I've ever heard about SHIFT garments. After reviewing the styles I've never seen before I fell that wearing a SHIFT product will provide "great" advertisement to you company when I wear it each time I'm on my motorcycle. Other will wonder who, what and where they too can purchase a jacket like the one I'll be sporting for your company.

Currently I only have a Hein Garicke leather and I really need a new one as the H.G. is many years old. Money is extremely tight now due to the fluctuating economy and i don;t have any extra cash to purchase a new one.

When I am chosen the winner for "male" jackets I can assure you that I will proudly wear your merchandise and if you'd like send some business cards so I can continuously hand them to people interested in finding out more about your product line.

Nothing is really free in this world, but we can work together on getting your SHIFT product more visible in the eyes of motorcycle enthusiasts in the NYC and NJ area this coming spring and summer.

New Episode of WHAT NOT TO WEAR
written by Ryan Edward , April 07, 2010

Imagine a beautiful fire-orange ZX-10 carving miles of beautiful curves from Northern California to the Tail of the Dragon in Tennessee. Clear skies, 74 degrees, and light traffic. Just then, a flash of black flies past your eyes and falls to the ground. It's a part of an Joe Rocket riding jacket.

Yep, that was me on my 8,000 mile motorcycle trip around the country just recently. My old textile riding jacket had literally disintegrated on the curviest road in the country. Perfect timing. The zipper broke that morning as I was suiting up, the left sleeve had already come undone at the seam leaving a baseball sized hole, and while riding that same day, a removable zippered vent panel flew off never to be seen again. Mind you, this Joe Rocket textile jacket was only a year old.

I wish I was making this up.

It's time for an upgrade.

SHIFT street jackets have always caught my eye in the store. And owning mostly SHIFT dirt-bike gear: pants, gloves, and shirts, I am also well-aware of their attention to quality. A SHIFT jacket is exactly what I am looking for. Besides, SHIFT will receive a lot of great national marketing from me as I take biannual, long distance trips with a group of guys. Hence the disintegrating jacket story.

Thanks for the consideration! Hope to fly the SHIFT banner soon!

Shift Gear for life!!!
written by Alec Paulson , April 07, 2010

I have owned shift gear I currently have the 2008 model avenger jacket and I love it. It has a sleek design that allows lots of airflow but protection as well. I was in an accident later that summer and my jacket played a huge part in keeping me alive and safe. The jacket was torn only on the shoulder and is still being worn everytime I ride. The Avenger Jacket speaks to the attitude a biker has that says I'm riding safe, but I'm looking damn good doing it. Adding a new Avenger jacket to my collection of Shift Gear will be the icing on my cake to the new riding season in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado.

new`
written by steve , April 06, 2010

I am gonna be new to riding this summer and like everyone cash is an issue. Do i want to spend it all on the bike or try and save some for the gear, so i dont have to wait to save up for helmets, jackets and pants. So a free jacket would help alot and give me more room to pay for my plates and stuff. Also the fact that bike are not just about fun but a little about attitude to and Shifts got that in the Avenger Jacket.

switched from dirt to street and my shift gear is still in the mud
written by Rob Pierce , April 06, 2010

As the title says ive been on the trails since birth and all i owned was shift gear. ive never had a problem, i loved shift gear beause i felt that most other brands were selling out and people bought the clothes with the logo just to own it.ive never seen shift for sale in pacsun and places like that. shift is a company thats true to the roots of riding, wether dirt or street. Shifts name says it in its self, no other company has something so crucial to riding as its name. i dont have the gear for street riding and i would love to bring over that. and whats better then free. the avenger jacket is raw, it has sick styling. i also need this jacket. i built this bike from a salvage and ive had a few close calls so i really need something to save my bacon. never had a problem on the dirt, now its time to keep it that way. the asphault is a different animal and i think you guys got it covered. thanks. Rob

Wouldn't it be nice.
written by Dave James Beresford , April 06, 2010

Wouldn't it be nice to be able to tell you that I have a horrible, horrible jacket; full of holes and rips and tears, dry rotting, mold and mildew festering within. Wouldn't it be nice to say that I fell, or that I broke my bike, or that I'm miserable in some other sense. Wouldn't it be nice if I were in splints, and casts and on medication, in order to make you feel bad for me. Wouldn't it be nice to convince you that my pitiful incessant pleas for monetary gain were real and that I "can" afford a beautiful motorcycle, but "not" that beautiful jacket to go with it.

I guess I should be honest and tell you, although I really don't want to, that a guy like me with a bike like mine just cant top these other posts. I have a jacket, its kinda nice (minus the way it makes me look fatter than I really am). but hey, I'm a fatty...feel sorry for me.

Help, I'm Jacketless And My Ducati Monster Is Embarassed To Be Seen With Me Ridding It
written by Robert Woodward , April 04, 2010

I've been riding for almost 18 yrs now, and still have yet to own a real motorcycle jacket yet. I've had several bikes (Suzuki Katana, Honda Magna, Honda Goldwing)but now for about 7 years have ridden a Black 97' Ducati Monster M900, and commute to work on it when it's not snowing here in Utah. Not only do we have wonderfully quick changing weather, awesome drivers that love to change lanes erratically without signaling, but wonderfully curvy canyons that love to be ridden. All of which, scream "wear protective ridding gear". So besides the fact that I could really just use one for the functionality/safety aspects of it, I really think the "Snow Camo" design would look awesome against the black paint on my Duc. Don't let my kids get made fun of because their dad doesn't have a cool racing jacket, or let me get made fun of by all of the other pilots because I cant afford a descent jacket since I'm still paying on my student loans from becoming a helicopter pilot. Thanks in advance for stopping the laughter. Sincerely, Robb the Chopper Pilot

Found the gym
written by Matt Phelps , April 03, 2010

I've been in the military for 8 yrs this Oct. Between life and the job, i've finally been able to by my bike. I'm currently stationed in Las Vegas NV. The drivers here scare the crap out of me while riding, they barely see cars let alone a bike. I bought a shift jacket when i bought the bike. I dont know which style it is. Rn 97275? I absolutely love the jacket. The sucky part is that within the past year, I found the gym haha. And large just isnt cutting it anymore. I want to get an XL, but I feel bad about getting a jacket for myself when I could buy a birthday present for my wife. She wants her first coach purse. I told her that the purse isnt a good substitute for crazies on the road, but in the end, she has put up with my shinanigans, so I want to buy her something nice. Either way Shift is the way to go. for any rider. "shift 2010, Live out..." and ride safe

Trying to Get one.
written by NovaBomb , April 03, 2010

I honestly don't have another jacket. I am just starting to get into motorcycling and have always liked the Shift product look and Racing team. On a Whim I typed in Free Motorcycle Jacket and got this page, So I thought I'd give it a Try.

I am going to be getting into Dual Sport riding as it's the best of both worlds. I just picked up a 1972 Honda CL450 to work on and eventually I would like to do some basic dual sporting. Down the line I would like to get something a bit newer (Something that isn't older then I am, 24) and go on a week or two long trip through this country. If you get me hooked on your products early you may just have your self a life time Customer. smilies/cheesy.gif

Working on OWNING my own
written by Franklin Dokey , April 03, 2010

Ok so no I do not have a motorcycle. Im trying my hardest to get on one. Yes I have a job. Yes I could afford to make the payments, where i meet a problem is no body will loan out to me. I am 21 My father will not cosign for me so currently I am saving up to finally get on a bike of my own. Even though I do not ride I have friends that ride. That avenger jacket would definitely help me feel more like the group but more of a standout. None of my friends even wear shift that ride. I would love to be the first to sport the tenacious look of the avenger jacket around my firends. I would sport the jacket with massive amounts of pride. When you get to play blocker for all your buddies you kind of feel left out. I want to be commited to this group. I am proud to be a member of 407 Cycles!

So I have been without a bike for over 10 years now. I had to retire my 1970 Honda CB750 after many miles and much abuse, (RIP Betty). I have recently acquired a new Yamaha V-star but have also added many pounds and inches since the old riding days of yesterday. I have a ratty old leather jacket and brand new Shift gloves, which makes for an interesting pairing.
As the economy gets tighter so do the possibilities of being able to upgrade to a new jacket.
Oh whoa is me...

For fear of a Shift, topple an scaring!
written by Lawrence Franklin , April 01, 2010

I ride 2 different bikes,(Ninja ZX9-R & Hayabusa) I also ride multiple different girls. They are the enthusist, and thrill seekers of my neighborhood. I just have never purchased any other safety gear past a Scorpion EXO helmet, and gloves for these ladies to wear. I as a rider I know that all the varibles are constanly in play during a ride to wherever it may lead, but I also know as well as other riders that the ladies can get uncomfortable on a lenghty ride and get to squirming. I pay the insurance to compensate for tragedy, but I know that there is not one man, women, boy or girl, Especially a Female that would want the terrible scars that will come from being unprotected in case of a topple on the asphalt caused from excessive squirming, and or the fact that no one rides forever without and accident. So far so good but I'm young yet. I thought "Why not sign up for the Jacket", it can't possilbly hurt, summers around the corner, and bikes are already being seen by the multitudes on the highway, Prepartion is a key essetial to being, and staying safe. I know it is not the most colorful story, but it is a certain concern. Congratulations to the winner nonetheless!!!!

My current jacket makes people think I stole my bike!
written by Jason Stanley , March 31, 2010

Ok my Jacket is fine for cold, harsh Autumn days. It is the standard leather racing jacket, black with zippers and a liner. Nothing fancy. Problem is I ride a KLR 600 dual sport with white and black. I look like a 50's biker who woke up from a coma and stole the first bike that went by. I need a jacket with armor for bark banging here in Vermont. Problem is I have been unemployed since LAST April after being fired from my job in a state prison for excessive use of force. Please help!

Too heavy, easily overheat, not enough protection!
written by Justin , March 31, 2010

My outdated leather Triumph jacket just doesn't cut it for warm weather riding like the modern jackets do. There is no armor for protection and it's made of heavy black poorly vented leather making warm weather riding miserable. I love the look of the Shift jackets, but...I am broke from paying off student loans, so unless I win it's gonna have to wait quite a while. My Speed Triple is my source of sanity, and a new riding jacket would make things that much better!

Cuz Joe Rocket don cut it
written by Dave , March 30, 2010

I am in need of a new jacket because the joe rocket jacket that i got just doesnt cut it. it feels thin, the fit is a little wierd and the quality just isn't there. i borrowed a shift jacket from a buddy to try it out, it was the streetfighter jacket. that jacket was the sh;;t. it had leather in the spots where you need them and textile to help you breath. the fit was a whole lot better. the only reason why i haven't bought a shift jacket is i simply cant afford it right now.

I need a well made, good looking jacket to protect me while riding my MV Agusta.
written by Phil S , March 30, 2010

I'll admit I put all my time and effort researching and finding my beautiful baby; an '07 MV Agusta F4 1000 R. I didn't have a jacket or a good helmet when I went to pick her up. I knew protection while riding is very important but financially I was tapped out. I decided to purchase a decent helmet but was really clueless about the various jacket manufactures. So I asked around and finally picked one up. Of course some of my quieter riding buddies finally spoke up and told me I should have purchased a Shift jacket. Thanks guys! Could have spoken up when I was looking. Well, a year later I still have my original jacket and it's ok but I'd really like to upgrade and pick up one of these Shift Avenger jackets. It would look great and protect me if something unfortunate happens. Better yet, I'd love to win one. Keeping my MV happy is expensive!

Out with the leather, in with the Shift
written by Ryan Palen , March 29, 2010

A little about my jacket now. Currently I'm rocking a 3 year old leather jacket that my mom originally bought for herself down in Daytona before I bought my first bike. Its solid black with a thin stripe of dull retro-reflective running from shoulder to shoulder, hardly visible at night. Besides being hard to see at night, it also causes headaches during the day which sometimes make riding un-enjoyable. Unless it is a really cold day, the desire to wear this sweat suit is almost non existent(because they won't let me park it in the house unless im "riding safe.") When me and my friend Tony went to the bike show down in NYC, he got a nice Shift jacked. (It was like half leather and half fabric, but about twice as much as i was going to spend.)He has all the features that my jacket lacks, like the removable liner, vents, spots to add and remove the lightweight armor and so on. He even has a spot for his iPod on the inside! I have a thick leather shell with some padding and a zipper in the front, not even any pockets! Most of all, I know I can trust Shift and would be proud to represent another great product. I recently bought an inexpensive Shift helmet (Agent I think) from Dennis Kirk for the ATV and it has far superseded my expectations. Not to mention it was A LOT less than the Fox helmet I got myself for graduation that nearly broke when if fell off the work bench. And here’s the icing on the cake, I just traded in my first bike for a new Ninja 650r and honestly... wearing a old full leather jacket on a shiny new ninja is kinda like seeing an ATM in a homeless shelter, it just isn’t right. I hope this will get me out of my old leather and in a nice new swift jacket for the upcoming riding season. Have a look at where I will be displaying my new jacket

written by jeff p , March 28, 2010

I have to be honest i don't really know much about shift but i what i can see is that shift is involved in many aspects of the motorcycle world and if they are willing to give out their product for free then that's a sign that they trust their product out their and know if it comes to it, will save a person for harmful injury. I don't have a bike but plan to get one this summer i already have a helmet and gloves the jacket would be a great addition. I know if i get my hands on this jacket i have plenty of friends that are interested in riding and some currently are riding that i would recommend to this brand. I'm young with plenty of years of riding ahead of me and would like to say shift had my back i seen what these accidents can do to a person and if a certain brand provides safety i'm all for that brand. I'll be the unofficial shift spokesman if needed to get my hands on this jacket.

Shift
written by Micah Soyland , March 28, 2010

My current jacket is a vintage Fieldsheer I bought used off of Craigslist for $40. That was two years ago, just before a ride I took from South Carolina to North Carolina, Tennesse, and back again.

On the road back from Nashville, I camped at Ironhorse Motorcycle Lodge. While I was there I took several stabs at the Tail of the Dragon. The last run, wasn't my decision to be the last. Sailing over the apex of a curve, my narrow 21-inch front tire gave up it's last of it's tread. I simply fell off the edge of the tire.

There's a certain harmony in the midst of a crash. During those moments when time seems to slow I looked down to see my Yamaha spinning down the pavement on it's side like a top. It was over as quickly as it had begun and I stood to survey the damage. My Fieldsheer's armour took most of the blow, but not without burning holes in the textile. The bikes handlebars and luggage racks took the entire wreck. After a quick trip down the road to a repair shop for new handlebars I made my contribution to the Tree of Shame: a pair of stock XT600E handlebars.

The next morning I was off again on my journey to South Carolina. The plan was to take the Blue Ridge Parkway to Asheville, and down south back to Charleston. It was raining a light drizzle. But I thought, "my gear is waterproof..."... I was wrong. Four hours later I was just pulling into Asheville. 120 miles in 40 degree weather can take some time, but feels even longer when you're soaked to the core.

Now, two years later I'm still in the same jacket, with the same holes, with the same lack of water resistance. It's time for a change.

Shift provides performance with stylish design, and that's why I choose them.

Need a jacket

Greetings, I'm a brand spanking new rider without a jacket new or used. Could really use a new Swift jacket for the safety that I need and the style that I want. You don't want to read about me do you? Not with the head line reading,"If he only had a swift jacket"! So to keep your conscience free from and me free from harm, let's go ahead and suit me up in a nice new Swift jacket right away.

in desperate of a jacket that could potentially save my life
written by jeff lund , March 27, 2010

i am in college and i have jus had ot pay off my tuition and pay for all of my other books. i have a gsxr 750 k4 and have been riding it for a few years now. i currently do not have a riding jacket due to some money issues. i wish i could be writing about whats wrong with my current jacket, if i had one. i am not one of those guys who wears a t-shirt and shorts when he rides. i ALWAYS wear jeans, boots and a sweatshirt. i keep extra clothes in my school backpack when i ride. i know how stupid riding is without a jacket but i just do not havr the money right now to be buying one. if i were to recieve one for free, i would feel so much safer, especially if it was a top brand like Shift. it would be of great gratitude for you to choose me because i have to ride my motorcycle in one of the worst places to ride, Boston. if you have ever drove in or around Boston then you know what i am talking about. getting cut off is a given when you ride or drive here. i have heard that the ground is like a cheese grater when you fall on it, i personally do not what to know what that feels like. please do not make me (knock on wood) slide on a cheese grater if i do end up laying my bike over this year! thank you, jeff.

Bugs like needles in style
written by Matt , March 27, 2010

Accelerating out of the corner and into the straight, I'm flying around these country roads. All is good, with the sound of the engine roar and the image of the other riders getting smaller and smaller in my mirrors. The next turn comes quick.. and painful. A swarm of locasts and other bugs is in my line of travel. Like needles and rocks hitting my skin, I knew it was time to make a change.

Oddly enough, I owned my first motorcycle jacket before I owned my first motorcycle. I would secretly wear it around the house anticipating buying a new bike. Time went on, and I got my first motorcycle. The more and more I started to ride, the less and less I wore that jacket. It was a Joe Rocket jacket. I stopped wearing it not because I didn't care about my safety, but instead because of its functionality and appearance.

Shift Jackets have the functionality and looks that I desire. But having lost my job due to layoffs, I can't afford to buy another jacket. I've tried selling my joe rocket one, but everyone else seemed to be smart enough not to get it. Shift jackets provide the safety I need in case I go down on these country roads. They also have the COOLEST looks. The shift jackets would match perfectly with my helmet and motorcycle.

The functionality... really I just need a couple pockets and some protection, but the zippers and construction of the jacket is well worth the price... The price I can't afford. That's why I would love to support Shift by wearing this winning jacket around town.

In desperate need of new leathers.
written by Will , March 27, 2010

My current Shift jacket has become ingrained with bug guts due to my incessant speeding through windy country roads in the corn fields of Iowa. While it's occasionally useful at keeping overweight seat warmers from trying to hop on my 636, it's making it increasingly difficult to pick up the cute ones. Furthermore, I've put on about 15 lbs in the gym since I bought that last jacket, which now fits like OJ's glove, making it difficult to function while wearing it.

SHIFT RULEZ!
written by Jeff Johnson , March 26, 2010

I have two jackets, one Shift and one Frank Thomas. I would like a new Shift because the one I have is getting old... Shift makes a really good jacket. It has kept me safe and warm even during the wet season here in the SF Bay Area. My other is fine but I like my Shift jacket due to the fact it is more resistant to the elements, more comfortable and looks really cool.

Who wouldn't want a Shift Jacket.
written by Daniel Staub , March 26, 2010

I have been riding motorcycles for 30 years and have been in involved in terrible motorcycle-minivan accident back in 1989 that left me paralyzed in the left arm. I also lost a lung in that accident. But life goes on and I was riding again in a little over a year. Over the years I put on the pounds and moved up to bigger bikes. The last new jacket I bought was an H&D riding Leather jacket with all the protective pads. It was a size 3X and I was 370 pounds. Three years ago I started eating less and exercising. I have lost 190 pounds and now wear a smaller size. I am swimming in a 3X. Times are tight and money is hard to have much for extras. I would truly appreciate a riding jacket that fits properly. I would not want to be the person to choose just one winner. All of the stories are heart-warming. I may not have won a bronze star or saved any sick puppies or rescued wild llamas from burning barn, but I would really look great in one of your jackets.

why i deserve a shift jacket
written by Byron Jennings , March 26, 2010

Hi. My name is Byron. I've been riding for about 15 years now, and never really had anything new. I'm from a pretty poor family and the bike I have now (1996 zx6-e) I bought on craigslist for $200 and have spent most of my money on fixing it. I use a cheap helmet i got at a tent sale at Renton motorcycles for $60, and the Jacket I use is an old field sheer that my mother gave me as a hand-me-down. it's not very good as stopping the wind or rain, and so I have to wear a windbreaker over it to stay warm and dry during any season except summer. I have 2 friends from school who have shift jackets and they say that they are pretty comfortable and they feel very safe wearing them. one of them crashed a few months ago and his jacket saved his life. I know my mother would feel safer if I had a better jacket, but we simply cant afford it. I have been reading a few of the submissions and there are some people who seem more deserving than me, but I figured I might as well try my luck. thanks for taking the time to read this.

Shift Jacket
written by Rick Kliment , March 26, 2010

As of present I ride with an allweather jacket with no additional protection as I am lacking in the funds department for anything better. The Shift jackets display superior protection in the event of a spill and would be greatful to own and wear one.

Safety First!

I'm about to return home from a year long Deployment to Iraq, just in time for summer riding. Learned alot of thing being over here and it's safety first.
Second is looking cool for the pic's you post on facebook.
Winning a SHIFT AVENGER JACKETS, would provide me protections and great looks, so I can live and ride to fight another fight.

My Vanson is shot !
written by ron moats , March 25, 2010

My Vanson leather is beat to death, it looks like my grandfathers old police horse hide leather looked when the Goodwill said no thanks to us. Problem is it's only a little over 5 years old I tried on a new shift Jacket last year and have been trying to justify getting one since, this would solve the justification dilema for sure. All I can say is one way or another... it was the nicest fitting coat in riding postion I've had on since I don't know when.

If you're backside's not covered, you're in for a world of hurt
written by chris perry , March 25, 2010

I have been riding for a little over eight years now. I've always believed in the importance of proper safety gear while doing any type of activity where danger is involved, and motorcycling is no different. To rely on a thin piece of cotton to protect you is not only insane, it's potentially extremely painful. Obviously the idea is to keep the rubber side down, but with all the other people out on the road not paying attention to you, as well as varying road conditions, it's better to be on the safe side. I've made the progression from inexpensive fashion leather, to more durable functionable leather, to other brands textile jackets, and now it's time to take the step up to Shift. The next logical choice in personal safety while on two wheels.

Simply the Best
written by brian brown , March 25, 2010

My name is brian and i have been riding a yamaha r6 for 3 years now. I have already purchased a shift jacket and it is amazing. i went through 2 other jackets before this one and can admit its the only truly comfortable jacket out there that allows u to move freely and at the same time holds up through a nasty spill as i could tell from my friend dumping his bike with a shift jacket and gloves on. ive been promising my girlfriend a jacket as she is starting to ride my bike and has been going on rides with me. i would prefer her to be protected with nothing but the best jacket in the motorcycle world. Shift is simply the best.

Recent Convert
written by Adam , March 25, 2010

Just recently I started riding a CBR 600 RR and have been looking for the right gear. The stuff that I have isn't bad but seeing someone going down the road on a CBR in Harley leather just doesn't look right. It also doesn't fell right. There is no removable liner, no accordion panels for more mobility, no reflective pipeing and I think the worst thing about it is that it is heavy. Don't get me wrong when I went down a couple years ago it defently did its job. I don't want to sacrafic any safty by going to a textile jacket. Seeing as though it has a 600 denier polyester, along with the ballistic nylon and Ce approved armor. I really don't think that I have anything to worry about. That is why I want a Shift Avenger Jacket. Thanks

So I do not get hurt again . . .
written by Devon S Reith , March 25, 2010

Why do I need this Shift Racing jacket? I need it so I don't get hurt the next time I crash (hoping that I'll never crash again). I am a poor community college student that is paying his way through and living at home to save money. Jackets are expensive and it is tough saving up for one when you have so many other expenses to take care of. I have been riding since I graduated high school back in 2005 and still have my first bike (86 Honda Shadow 500). I had saved up and spent my savings on a leftover 2006 Honda CBR 1000rr. I had it for 3 weeks before I crashed it. I crashed into a tree and broke my back (photos of broken back and wrecked bike in my photo album). I shattered my vertebra and now have 3 rods, 6 screws and a cage in my back. My jacket which looks like the wolverine jacket from x-men used to be my dad's 25 yrs ago. It is just a leather jacket with no armor. The inside liner is ripped and falling apart. If I was wearing the Shift jacket during my accident, I probably would not have broken my back. I am allowed back on a motorcycle with my bad back, but I am more concerned about protecting myself because my body can not take another big trauma like that. I was lucky enough to be able to walk away from this accident. I want to be protected so if I were to be in another accident, I will be able to walk away from it again.

Please tell me it will soon be time to ride!!
written by Mel , March 24, 2010

I'm hijacking this contest from my dad. He keeps saying, "We'll get a jacket for you soon." so I can go riding on his 92 Nighthawk 750 with him. I helped him clean it up, I've held the flashlight and tools while he rebuilt it, I got grease and oil on my clothes and under my fingernails. I'm not a girly-girl, but get dirty with no reward! So yeah, in the 2 years since he's owned it, have we gone to pick up a jacket? Noooo, of course not. Any time we could go get it, he's off riding somewhere. Well, it's time to take matters into my own hands! I *need* a SHIFT jacket so I can shift from my tear stained face (on the side of the road) to a position behind him on the seat. I want to feel the wind flow through the great venting system, while keeping me safe with it's removable CE approved armor. What a dream that would be! Please help me to get into one of your great SHIFT jackets and on the road!!

written by Tim , March 24, 2010

I'm not looking to get a new jacket for myself, if picked, the jacket would be for my wife. Last June she took and passed the motorcycle safety course and recieved the wonderful M class. Money was tight at the time so we set up a bike savings account. Last week we checked the account and saw that their was enough to get her a good used first bike. We went out and picked up a 95 sportster, not a sport bike, but something with a comfortable seating position. Now we are in the process of getting her all geared up for safety. We have the proper footwear, gloves, helmet, and some nice Shift pants on the way. She couldn't decide on a jacket so we haven't picked it up yet. I have been wearing shift gear since I started riding back in 2003 and have always found them to be the most comfortable and very protective. Thank you for the years of great research and development that has gone into all the gear that Shift makes.

Wishing for a new jacket
written by Joshua Nuckolls , March 23, 2010

think that the new jackets are sick looking and would love to own one. I have been riding for a few years. I bought my first jacket from a friend but it is way to small so i don't wear it like i should and i have a wife and kids at home so i would like one that fits and don't have the money right now to buy a new one. When i go out riding i want the padding and i know that shift does a great job in that department and that there protection is top notch so i want to show one of and what would be better then wearing one to advertise how great they look and the protection that they offer.

written by aj contreras , March 23, 2010

love the styles its definantly a brand id wear!.as a rider of sports and harleys the only issue id really bring up about the apparel isnt weather id like to own one, cuz hell yea i would!, i just think that saftey in something like that is most important not only padding but reflectiveness. as any rider can tell you most drivers never see us so to make it more obvious that were there would be my only thought. thanx for listning and congrats to whoever wins!!! MAJ BRIAN THORNTON RI Army National Guard, and Providence RI Police Officer
written by BRIAN THORNTON , March 22, 2010

I have a story to tell, which highlights your fine jacket's safety attributes. I hope that this story is judged to be the winner, but more importantly, I hope that this story increases sales of your product.

As a police officer, I respond to so many accidents, both on main highways and secondary roads, that over time the details blend together. Occasionally, however, a detail or observation stands out from the blend. Your jacket was just such a detail, and I wish to bring it to a greater audience.

I responded to a Hit and Run car vs. motorcycle collision, a scenario which rarely plays out well. The car and driver had left the scene, after striking the rider and motorcycle. The collision happened, as often is the case, through no fault of the motorcyclist or motorcycle.

Much to my surprise, the motorcyclist's injuries were almost non-existent. In fact, after dusting himself off, he decided that it was not even worth filing a report (Police Officers LOVE when paperwork is reduced!) as the damage to his bike was cosmetic only, and because the motorcycle jacket he was wearing was YOURS, and he had suffered no injury to his upper body. His blue-jean-covered leg and buttocks were not so lucky, but that is a detail which I have seen played out very often, and one of the reasons why, when I ride my 2002 Harley RoadKing Classic, I wear leather pants, leather chaps and a leather jacket and helmet.

He made contact with the ground for over 10 feet (3 meters), left a helmet paint stripe behind on the concrete sidewalk, and yet, after bending his footpeg back, AND telling me the name brand on his jacket, he rode away.

I believe that he was blessed to be wearing your product that day, and that your product made a MAJOR difference in HIS outcome in that collision. I hope that you will consider my story noteable enough for me to win your contest, and your product, but more importantly, I hope that more people buy your product, and drive safely out there.

Because my beer gut probably won't be enough protection...
written by Aaron Rowse , March 22, 2010

I'm a newbie on the streets, but I've been riding dirt for several years. One thing I've noticed riding motocross is that if I forget any safety item in my wardrobe, I usually manage to land on the body part that the item I forgot is supposed to protect. I'm sure that same part of Murphy's Law applies to the street as well, but pavement's not nearly as forgiving as dirt is.

Unfortunately, while I've put together a relatively complete set of gear for motocross, I'm just starting to piece together my street set. As often as I manage to crash on the motocross track, I don't trust myself to ride on the street with anything less than a good jacket that's made to withstand asphalt surfing, and right now I don't have anything I could trust. My bike's sitting in the garage right now, and it won't be seeing much daylight until I have enough gear to ride it safely. I'm sure it's as impatient as I am. I've been looking for a decent jacket for a few months now, and you could make my search much easier.

To be honest, I've never owned Shift gear in the past, although I have bought Fox gear. I've had great luck with it so far, and I wouldn't hesitate to buy it again.

I appreciate your consideration.

Please help me out
written by Geoff Craigie , March 22, 2010

Well im 20 years old and am planning to buy my first motorcycle in a couple months. I work hard for everything i have but as you know, times are extremely tough right now.. especially in muskegon michigan. we have the highest unemployment in the us... that first of all should say something about my situation. Although i work many hours and go weeks without a day off i am overwhelmed with the amount of things i have to pay for. Theres always something that comes up right when you think its settled down. To make a long story short, its going to be a while before i have the $$$ to purchase a NICE jacket or a jacket at all. I love shift products. They have by far the best designs on the market and my friends all ride and have had very good luck with your products as well as a few small items ive had excellent luck with (gloves, riding pants). It would be such a great feeling to receive this jacket. One thing in my life i WOULDNT have to pay for. Thanks so much for the consideration.

Desperate need to protect my skin
written by Gregory Cannon , March 21, 2010

I ride a great sportbike and have a good lid for my head but I am unable to afford a really decent riding jacket like one of these. I ride in a very crowded Wichita Kansas but I am a single dad with two little girls to care for so the money goes for them and living expenses first always, but I think my girls would love it to have dad riding a little more protected for sure. Not going to lie and BS dont know much about Shifts racing background or any of that, but they sure make a hell of a great street armor jacket it seems to me, would be proud to wear one or your jackets on my skin. Thanks

CUZ I ENVY MY GIRL'S ENVY (REALLY)
written by BRYAN , March 21, 2010

So I have to admit I envy my girl's Envy jacket! It got me looking into Shift products and soon we'd purchase her shift gloves too. Now I've been looking for Shift gear and here comes this chance to WIN some!!! And the Avenger jacket is amazing (and a pretty good bargain $)! I have 3 bikes, now that my girl has her license, and my current enduro jacket does NOT do my supersport justice.
PLEASE readers of my little letter - PLEASE envision ur black and white jackets on my girl and I as we proudly ride our black rocket every day (and every club ride)! We'll represent with honor (and thanks to you..style).

Sweet Protection
written by Aaron , March 21, 2010

Oh how I need this jacket... I need it's sweet, soft, strong fabrics enveloping my exposed and vulnerable body. You see, every time I ride I am pursued by a demon, a true hellhound; a bloodthirsty black beast that swoops down from it's lair with only one intent: to torment me until the day I die. As she digs her sharp talons deep into my back, and as the pain shoots through my veins and overpowers my senses, all I can think is how much I would love the comfort and protection of a Shift Jacket! As the beast tightens it's grip and tendons and sinews begin to tear, the only thing in my mind is how the superb quality of a Shift jacket could be preventing this discomfort! And as the monster picks me up into the air, only to hurl me back down upon the pavement, the only thing on my mind is how the quality protection of a Shift jacket could be breaking my fall.

Shift Jacket
written by Cameron , March 20, 2010

I've had the riding bug since I was 16 and I used to ride my dad and brother's bikes all over the place.. I've never had my own bike until a few month ago. I don't have the funds to buy all the gear yet and I found out the hard way how important it is to have some quality stuff while riding. I got into some loose gravel and laid my bike down at about 15MPH. Lucky for me I only got a few patches of road rash, but the coat I was wearing at the time got pretty thrashed. The bike has a few dents that I'm looking to get fixed now too. I've always liked the Shift brand gear and how original and unique the styles are. I've talked to a few guys who have Shift jackets and they all love them. So, I'm hoping to get my own chance to try some out.

Thanks for this awesome contest and thinking of the safety of the riders who admire your brand!

Comfort!!

At first i bought it for the looks.Boy did i screw up and I have paid for it dearly! The back plate feels like i have a box digging into my back. The elbow pads have limited my range in movement.I luckly have not had to use these features so i cant comment on there durabilty. But as far as comfort D-.I could really use a shift jacket!I tried one on the other day and wow!Wish they would have had these when i bought my bike!!Hopefully you can help me out!!

new jacket
written by Hans , March 19, 2010

Hey pretty sick jacket. Right now i ride with a cheap 50 dollar jacket where all the threads are coming out and it rides like a parachute one me. Its falling apart on the sleeves and on the bottom. Its been through 1 accident and since then with the medical bills i dont have the money to afford new gear. I would love to race my bike but with thousands of dollars in medical bills and not being able to afford new gear its nearly impossible. Being able to win a new shift jacket would not just make me ride more comfortable knowing im riding a name brand leather but it would also make it cheaper for me to try n pursue my future. Im not really a cheap person and dont like wearing cheap clothes because price and brand makes a huge difference. Seeing other racers and friends ride with shift i know the brand sticks out for something otherwise other racers/riders wouldnt ride with it. I would just really like to have a new and nice jacket to ride and be comfortable in and know it will last longer than 8 months of riding.

sincerely,

Hans

I have always worn Shift Gear and I have always been a huge fan. They make a quality product that lasts and is very wearable. They actually put some thought into their gear and i love that about them.
The jacket that i have now just doesnt stand up to what i would get out of this Shift Jacket. I want a jacket that has strech in the right places so that when i am on my bike i can safely move and turn. I want durable fabric that can stand up to the weather in Idaho. I want to win this Shift Jacket because shift is the best.
I can see myself wearing it already!

Why I need a new jacket
written by Harley , March 17, 2010

I have not rode in 3+yrs.; but I’m getting closer to buying another sport bike and I am going to need new gear, I had Field Shear leathers that were great and they saved my butt twice. I was ripping through the twists on Blood Mountain and came in too hard and smoking my sliders, which I love to do. The bike was a ‘03 600RR (I’ll explain why I say was) I taped my brakes & down shifted which did not work, did I mention I had my first and hopefully last endow. So I let off the front brake taped the gas to get in line with what I was about to do! The bike can always be replaced but we can’t which is why I did let it go & I will get to that; so I banked over to the left as hard as I could and let the bike go down 45+ feet. I was behind two of my good friends but I was getting tired of their pace. I was behind watching how they were going into turns and later was going to bring it up and explain when we got back to the hotel, don’t worry I was not leaving them be hind we were about four miles from meeting up with rest of the guys at the bottom of the hill.
I got up and went down to where my bike was to kill the ignition switch and turn off the key. Pat & Doc had just come past where I lost it when I was half way up the hill. So I’m sitting at the top having a smoke, Pat & Doc (Doc is an E.R. Doctor) that is a real good person to have with you with the type of ridding we do. I twisted my ankle just a bit but it did not stop me from ridding. Back to the bike, I had the left mirror snapped off and two stress cracks on the left faring; Pat & Doc get to the bottom and meet up with the rest of our ridding partners & one asked where is Walker? Pat was explaining that I was getting bored following behind him and Doc, so he just shot around us and was gone in the blink of an eye. So now it is about 12min later when they came back looking for me and I am having my smoke at the top and Marc asked where the heck is your bike? I just pointed and said over there. It took all 15 of us to get the bike back to the top. Doc was checking my ankle & Mike was looking over my bike and trying to start it. The bike had vapor locked and it took Mike three tries till he got it started. Now we are going to the local Honda shop so I can get air filter changed as well as the oil filter and oil. Those guys were great, they said I could not work on my bike in their shop for liability reasons but they let me use all the tools I needed to get the work done. I scuffed up my leathers some but they did there job! I had no scratches (thank God) for ridding with me as he always did and will be doing again real soon I hope. The next morning we got up and headed for the Dragon which is what we twice a year for four years straight, they still go and know I’m about to get another bike. As I said above (was) a good bike two weeks to the day I lost it going about a buck n a half into an awesome curve because some bone head in his big Buick drifted about three feet into my lane. As I was flying through the air feet first I could see the bike hitting and flipping end over end and that is when the reality sunk in that this going to hurt & it did, telephone polls do not move nor flex when one hits them. So the paramedics show up and they put me in the back of that expensive taxi ($5000.00) for a thirty-minute ride & the first thing they wanted to do was cut my leathers off but talked them out of it when I told them I had ridding shorts on underneath and I could take off my pants and jacket thank Go I wasn’t wearing my one piece suite. When I got to the E.R. the Doctor was expecting the worst and he told me two hours later when I walked out of there that he wished all riders were wearing that type of gear when the came to the E.R. so my leathers took a good beating but still did their job and I did not get scratched up. I did however have one heck of a bruise that went from my waist to just below my ribs on my right side. So this is why I am hopping to win a jacket because my old one got beat up pretty bad. My guys keep up with gear more than I do and they told about your web site and it couldn’t hurt to enter. I like the fact that Shift racing does not just fit one type of ridding style and they have some awesome looking jackets. Wm. Walker AKA Dragon Master.

Poor Doris
written by James Zuniga , March 16, 2010

I named my motorcycle "Doris" and about a month an a half ago I was going to visit my parents in a town called Yucaipa. While traveling to Yucaipa I was going through the canyon and on one of the left hand turns I was on the outside lane a car was headed straight for me. Deciding that running head on into the car was a bad idea I swerved to miss him or her (I couldn't tell the driver didn't stop)going off the side of the road hitting a rock and laying my bike down breaking the front left fork in half! bending my lower triple clamp, broke my rear subframe, bent my shifter and scuffed up the whole left side of the bike. But on top of all of this scuffed my jacket up.... and my helmet. But luckily it was not my nice jacket I am the proud owner of the 2010 Shift Vertex jacket and I love it, but would like to have another poly fabric jacket for the warmer days, and just when I feel like some easy riding. If anyone would like to see the progress of "Doris" who is a 2007 R1 with full graves titanium exhaust, and a power commander USB III, send me a friend request on facebook My name is James Zuniga.

Gotta protect the lady!
written by Jeremy Suhre , March 16, 2010

The reason I want to win this Shift jacket is not because I need a jacket but because my girlfriend doesn't have one. I am currently a full time student in college paying my way through part time work, and as you could imagine I am strapped for cash. I have my own jacket and helmet and ride whenever I get a chance to. My girlfriend still hasn't gone for a ride yet because she doesn't have a helmet or jacket! I have almost saved up enough money to purchase a helmet for her but it's going to be a month or two before I can afford a jacket for her and spring is here! Winning this jacket would be so awesome because she would be so excited to finally be able to ride with me. It would be really cool because I could share the enjoyment of riding with her, plus she would look super attractive in it!(If I won, I could even send a promo pic of her wearing it, she is a babe too!) She keeps asking me about the helmet and I have to explain to her every time that she needs a jacket too because I wont let her ride without a one! I could never live with myself if I gave her road-rash and potentially scars. Shift seems to be a super innovative company with some super sleek designs. They are extremely modern looking with a touch of retro that makes them stand out from their competitors and makes them more appealing. They have amazing riders in all categories such as freestyle and road racing, but my favorite rider is Josh Grant in motocross.
This jacket would be very beneficial to my girlfriend and I and would gets its use. I know she will be calling me up all the time wanting to ride, she will be hooked just as I was when I first started riding! Plus you can't have your girl wearing a scrub jacket, that's why this Shift jacket would be so perfect.

I am currently a Jr. in college and I bought my first bike a few years ago. I soon after bought my first riding jacket. Because I was new into the riding scene, I did not know what kind of jacket to get and did not do the proper research. I purchased a Speed and Strength jacket and have regretted it since. It is too hot when the sun is out and does not keep me warm when I ride in cooler night weather. I also have been trapped in the rain and paid the price for not buying the right jacket. It does not protect from the water at all!!! It also does does not fit me properly and the padding slides around.

Because I am a college student, I currently do not have the funds to purchase a new and better jacket for I pay for school and living expenses myself. I have done plenty of research on Shift and have many friends who wear Shift and I have never heard a bad review. Shift in my opinion has the best looking apperal.

Please help!!! I don't want to be forced to wear this jacket anymore!!

Thanks

Shift Jackets are cool !!!

Actually, I'd like to win the Shift Jacket for my wife. She has been looking at new mesh jackets for months. It would be really cool to give her a brand new jacket just in time for ride season.

I want to Shift my style
written by Chas Sherran , March 14, 2010

I need a new stylish jacket to give me the new look I crave for the future. A black Shift avenger jacket would be ideal; and would be 100% better than the red and black dirty old thing I have. Shifting would be the best thing to happen to me this year. It would mean that I could Shift up a gear and get a Shift on with my life.

Thank you very much for your consideration.

Looks waterproof but isn't

My jacket will block some rain but gradually soaks it up like a sponge and then I'm freezing!

one thing in common....
written by Bart Raitano II , March 14, 2010

I recently got the chance to borrow a set of two piece SHIFT race leathers while on an, also borrowed, four cylinder Japanese 1000cc bike on a spectacular race track in the swamp lands of Florida. I'd really like to have a set of my own.
While my everyday rider is an American two cylinder sport/cruiser....and most of my gear has a bar and a shield on it....I probably looked out of place when I would wear black leather sporting The Motor Company logo on it while on a Euro race bike I bought last year. Unfortunately it met it's plight when I drilled a deer on it less than two months from brand new.....and I was lucky enough to be here to tell you about it. It was the backpack with the laptop in it that saved my spine.....and had I had on an armored jacket...I may have even gone to work that day instead of the ER.
I want to get another Italian masterpiece....but I also love the new Bavarian show stopper.....and everyday that I can....I will ride my Vrod. A jacket that is universal would be great. Not that my gear has to match my bike in any way....but there is one thing that is universal to ALL riding.

There are many different kinds of motorcycles and many different kinds of riders. The most important thing is to remember that it's all about two wheels.....twisting that throttle and leaning that bike through a turn. Whether you do it in the dirt or on the street or both....ride an American cruiser or a foreign race bike....the one thing we all have in common is we all have to SHIFT.

Summer Jacket needs replaced
written by Eric Hager , March 13, 2010

Been riding a little over 4yrs now and always wear my gear. Purchased a mesh Cortech jacket with my first bike, logged 5K miles with that bike and now have about 11K on bike number 2. Riding in the Florida summers blistering heat along with periods of heavy love-bugs in the air means constant washing and up-keep. The quality of this jacket is good, however I have been shopping for some time and have decided on the Shift Textile as a replacement. My build seems hard to fit being thin with long arms. The Shift cut seems to be a better fit than the A-Stars, Frank Thomas and the Icon's. I currently have a Shift in leather for the cold days, yes we have had our share here this year. So why do I want a free jacket? Like most I would take a free anything. I like to treat myself to new shiny things from time to time. So basically if i don't win a free one I will most likely be buying one anyway.

If Shift wants to throw one my way, then wherever I ride the Shift logo will be in direct view of all those behind me. And thats pretty much everyone.....

Good Luck

My jacket is torn
written by michael woodcock , March 13, 2010

My current jacket, an ICON, was torn after I had an incident with a pothole placed conveniently mid corner. Many of the zippers that were not constructed with metal no longer work acceptably, and the jacket has a few small tears.

I first heard of shift gear not for their jackets, but rather for their pants. After lots of shopping I had fallen in love with Shift Torque jeans, and I am patiently awaiting the day that I order my first pair.

not going to win
written by Craig Feeley , March 12, 2010

OK - let me get this strait. In order to win this jacket I need to develop some detailed story on why I need this jacket. Well sorry I am not that good at sucking up, just not my nature. A nice new, lighter weight jacket would be cool, with padding but I 1) not good @ sucking up (stated earlier) 2) can survive with out it and 3)padding is nice but not planning on laying my bike down.

So congrats to the winner

finally going to wear a jacket
written by scott , March 12, 2010

I have been riding about 17 years and have never worn a jacket or any type of prtection. About 2 years ago i had a pretty bad wreck where i totaled a friends bike, ended up with 2 skull fractures and a broken c7 vertibre. I spent a year off work. I finally realized the importance of safety. Shift has always been around because i have been around the gncc quads and follow the ama supercross. All my friends tell me that they love their shift jackets and i have tried a few on and they are comfortable. so if i am going to wear one i might as well be stylish and comfortable, and why not go with the company that soo many trust.

Saving skin, one step at a time.
written by David Pociengel , March 12, 2010

I caught the motorcycle bug in my senior year of High School from my co-worker at a local service station, ever since then I have always supported proper riding gear during any time of the year. Originally from Wisconsin, where I sported a $30 used leather jacket more suited for sitting on a hanger than covering anyone's hide, I managed to saved enough to afford a 'proper' jacket. Like many other casual riders I unfortunately fell into the mindset that a cheaper product was okay and the difference was only the price tag. Bringing time forward to the present and one painful road rash story later, I have been jarred out of that mistaken thought process, literally. Not only did the cheaper product fail to hold up under pressure, it wasn't lasting from day to day use. Stitches un-stiching themselves, velcro not velcro'ing, zippers not zipping, reflective piping not reflecting, and all within a few of months of purchase! Looking back on the original purchase has now become a painful lesson learned, your personal safety is not something you want skimp on like I did or you can very easily be redirecting your income towards costly medical bills that dwarf the cost of a brand new Shift jacket. Currently residing in Arizona has also brought higher temperatures into my riding lifestyle. Where a normal motorcycle jacket will have you sweating buckets, Shift's Avenger lineup will be my choice for summer driving, offering optimal airflow and stunning design schemes.

Shift plays an important role in safety, style, comfort, and sponsorship for a wide range of motorsports.

The shift brand Shift was introduced to me in 2004 when I first gained interest in riding. Shift is a child company of Fox Head, Inc and based in Morgan Hill,CA with offices in Newport Beach and in the UK and was founded by Geoff Fox in 1974. The apparel worn by Moto-X-Fox Racing Team gave a start for the apparel division that we know and enjoy today.
My story: I borrowed by cousin's jacket to wear at the training course and was surprised at how well it fit and of course how cool I looked. After my training I've attended bike shows, browsed apparel stores and seem to see Shift as a leader in innovation and design. Comfort was the biggest concern for me and most of the jackets I tried on fit like a Shift Racing glove. My cousin's jacket was passed down to me and has seen a few miles of wear and tear but was disposed of after a fall. Thus I've been riding with an Alpinestars jacket that I could afford and found at play-it-again sports and it just hasn't been the same since.
It would be great to find that jacket again that really fits again and I look forward to trying on a new avenger jacket from Shift Racing.

The Shift Contest!!
written by Paul , March 12, 2010

Like any of these other jokers, I'm all about safety when it comes to enjoying the recreation on two wheels with other brothas and sistas who risk it all sharing the unforgiving asphault with tons of steel on four wheels. I've been through a couple spills with my yellow Astars jacket, and it's still holding up pretty well! Well, things do change over time..It'd be awesome to get me some new threads with the new season! I'm talkin sinister looks too! Like the perfect examples displayed before me! Shift is the ONE for me! Cuz I'm as sinister as it gets home skillet!!! Like the above-mentioned, things do change over time..this includes myself. It's time I put the wreckless behavior behind me and started having fun safely. I would not put my beautiful Shift jacket to waste!

Shift into high gear!
written by Clover Street , March 12, 2010

WHen you think and see the Shift gear you vision functionality as well as safety and sleek design. I have always been using an icon model jacket which was great but I had tried on my friend's shift jacket which looks amazing and fits incredibly. I think it's an amazing jacket.

New Motorcycle Jacket!!!
written by Nicholas Weiss , March 11, 2010

Hello. I have been riding for a little over 6 years now and have always been well protected by some really great jackets....that is...up until recently. I am a carpenter in New York and the work has fallen out a it. Due to this, we only have one car and my bike. My wife gets the car and I am left riding throughout the winter. It's not as terrible as you may think though. A few sweaters and a raincoat really do cut the wind and keep you warm. Alas, this method is becoming a bit tedious. I must admit, I have been a fan of Icon gear for a while but I notice a huge difference in quality between them and Shift motorcycle gear. I'm not to sure if anyone over there in CA could relate but even though the cold weather is lifting here, it will be back again and I will still be riding around in it with or without a new jacket. I would much rather with the jacket of course! I must also apologize to Shift Racing though. I'm sorry for not noticing your gear for the past 6 years of my life on 2 wheels. It's good to know that you have 13 years under your belts so regardless weather or not I win this, my next jacket will be a Shift Racing one. Thank you.

Shift Jacket
written by Wes , March 11, 2010

As you can see from the picture attached(unable to post picture), I don't have a proper motorcycle jacket with all the pads and protective gear necessary to ensure my safety in the event of a crash. This jacket is actually the $7 Steve and Barry's special. Thats right, I trust my safety to a $7 pleather jacket when I ride. I think it is extremely important to be safe when riding, however funds don't always follow wants and needs. I had the motorcycle in the picture stolen(and only liability coverage) and took out another loan to buy another bike(you guys know it best, once you become a rider, you just have to ride!)...when you are paying two loans, it doesn't leave a whole lot of extra cash laying around. I've always liked the Shift jackets(especially the Avenger) and read some really good reviews of them online. I look forward to your response and I am really glad that you guys do stuff like this. I really enjoy allaboutbikes.com. Keep up the good work!
Sincerely,
Wes
