Alpinestars Trigger One-Piece Suit

For years I have been using a two-piece leather suit both on and off the track as my preferred protection apparel. So when Alpinestars offered me a one-piece suit to test for track and street road riding, I thought I should try out the all in one.
This model is the Trigger, and it’s one of their entry level suits at $699.95. It comes with full body armor already built in, including padding that can be removed and replaced. The amount of play you have around your knees makes the suit very comfortable and enables full un-hindered movement while wrestling with a bike. The knee pucks are perfectly positioned not too low, and they should last for several track sessions before needing replacing.
When I first put it on I thought it would take ages to break-in, which was not the case at all. From day one it was easy to use and really there has been no “break-in” time at all. I used it for a two-day road test and this weekend put it through its paces at two track events. It worked wonderfully.
The fit around the bottom of your legs is tight enough so that there is no bunching up inside your boot and the bottoms are easy to zip up but not too tight. The elbow protection is thick enough that I can imagine it would work very well in a crash, and the speed hump behind your head isn’t too big that you can feel it when pushing your head back; I can imagine again it would be effective in a spill.
The room around your backside is a little bit too much and a little baggy for my liking, but it isn’t too much that it gets in the way while sliding across your seat changing direction mid corner. All the zips are easy to use even with gloves on.
I also used Alpinestars Tech race bottom and top underwear. It really does keep you cool and helps immensely with getting in and out of the suit. I forgot the underwear while it was in the wash to one of the track events and the suit was harder to get on and off without it.
There is plenty of room in the back for a separate back protector and when it’s in place the suit isn’t too tight.
Overall it is a great suit for the money. It’s extremely stylish, comfortable and durable with leather thick enough that you can imagine it “saving-your bacon” in a slide. Go check it out at here. I will keep you posted how it does throughout the season.
