Alpinestars Bionic Back Protector

Julian V Taylor
Editor-in-Chief

Bionic Back ProtectorWhile testing the Trigger one-piece suit, I also used a Bionic Back Protector from Alpinestars.

The protector is developed out of their MotoGP racing research, and has a Dynamic Force Dispersion Technology (DFD Tech); it offers CE level 2 protection in a slimline unobtrusive form for performance, safety and comfort.

Here are the product’s features:

• Ergonomic five-plate design that contours to the natural curve of the back

• Plates lock to prevent overextension of the back

• Specially formulated impact absorber gives exceptional impact protection with minimal thickness and weight

• Softer, slimmer tailpiece for extra comfort and flexibility

• Wide belt with thermoformed protection at the sides

• Adjustable shoulder straps

• Air channeling through center of the spine for high breathability

• CE-certified Level 2 impact performance

I especially like the expandable strap mechanism; it has tension elastic that pulls in the protector to the center of your back very comfortably. The protector is also slim and light and doesn’t move at all when riding aggressively on the track.

Hopefully I won’t find out how well it works in a spill!
