Quality eye protection is arguably more important in motorcycling than any other sport. Where else are the eyes subjected to extreme speed and the resulting high winds and projectile bugs? Additionally, a motorcyclist’s eyes are constantly subjected to insidious UV rays.
Recently, as I was interviewing and photographing Pro Stock drag racer Valerie Thompson for an upcoming AAB feature, she showed me the Blueye eyewear line for which she is now a spokesperson. I came away impressed. The Blueye line includes eyewear for a plethora of applications. Obviously, I was most interested in the motor-sports specific glasses and goggles. The company features ten styles designed for motorcycle duty – eight are sunglasses and two are minimalist goggles.
On the technical side, Blueye lenses are Polycarbonate (PC) for impact resistance. The Blueye PC Polarized lenses are 1.8mm – 2.2mm thick and feature a decentred design. This means that the lens is thicker in the middle and gets gradually thinner towards the ends providing true visual clarity with no distortion.
Blueye Polycarbonate lenses meet the requirements relating to protection against high speed particles for sunglasses (standard EN166:1995) and high velocity test from ANSI Z87.1.
Blueye lenses are featured in a wide variety of lens tints that cover a full spectrum of riding conditions. To take a look at the styles and full specifications, visit http://www.blu-eye-us.com/intro/index.html.
