The Hatfield-McCoy Trails [video]
The Hatfield-McCoy trails of West Virginia have been providing ATV, UATV, and dirt bike riders with thrilling action since the year 2000. What started out as a "mere" 300 miles of off-road trails has now grown to more than 500 miles of trails that wind their way around the West Virginia mountains. Today the Hatfield-McCoy trail system is the second-largest off-road vehicle trail in the entire world!
But the Hatfield–McCoy Regional Recreation Authority has not sacrificed quality for the sake of quantity. These are 500 of some of the best off-road miles you'll find anywhere. What's more, you're bound to find exciting off-road riding action no matter what your experience or skill level. The Hatfield-McCoy trail system has some real white-knuckle areas for the most experienced riders, but also easy, gentle areas for people who are just getting started.
These are also some of the safest off-road trails you'll find anywhere. Although there has been an overall increase in ATV and dirt bike related injuries in the nation, the number of accidents and injuries on the Hatfield-McCoy trials has actually been declining. This is because the Hatfield–McCoy Regional Recreation Authority invests a lot of time and effort into maintaining their trail system, they have strict rules which they enforce, and the trails are patrolled regularly.
In the video below, George Poole of the Hatfield-McCoy trails tells Julian Taylor, editor and publisher of AllAboutBikes Magazine, about the development of the Hatfield-McCoy trails from a simple "easy - medium - hard" trail system to the addition of super-hard, single-track inclines that are for dirt bikes only... and for really experienced riders to boot.
Even if you already think you're pretty good on a dirt bike, these West Virginia mountain trails will really put your skills to the test.
Do you think you'd pass successfully?
