Tu-Endei-Wei Park (Battle of Point Pleasant)
At the junction of the Ohio and Kanawha Rivers stands a monument which commemorates the frontiersmen who fought and died at the Battle of Point Pleasant. This battle was fought with Chief Cornstalk on October 10, 1774, and is recognized as the decisive engagement in a proactive series of Indian wars. The name "Tu-Endie-Wei" is a Wyandotteword meaning "point between two waters." The Point Pleasant Battlefield Monument was erected on October 10, 1909 as a tribute to a battle fought on this same date in 1774.
Special park events include interpretative “walk-and-talks” with Tu-Endie-Wei State Park superintendant. There is no charge. Call ahead for dates and times.
Commemoration and Memorial of the Battle of Point Pleasant which occurred October 10, 1774 at the “point” between Virginia militia and the Shawnee Tribe led by Chief Cornstalk.
