Lost World Caverns
As located a short drive from Lewisburg, WV is Lost World Caverns. Descend 120 feet below the Earth's surface into a vast wonderland of stalactites and stalagmites. Lost World Caverns, discovered in 1942, is a truly magical place for both young and old. Self-guided tours are a great way to discover the caverns within 45-minutes, while a more in-depth four hour guided tour is also available. (Tours available year-round. Call ahead.)
You'll see formations such as The Snowy Chandelier, a 30 ton compound stalactite, presumed to be one of the nation's largest. The Bridal Veil is a beautiful column of sparkling white calcite. And of course there is the War Club, a 28 foot stalagmite made famous when Bob Addis sat on it for nearly 16 days, just to get his name in the
Guinness Book of World Records. Above ground visitors may also experience a dinosaur museum and learn about the Tyranosaurus Rex, Triceratops and more. In 1967 the remains of a prehistoric cave bear (Arctodus pristinus) was unearthed in the cave.
