Mountaineer Country Ride

Written by Leanne Clute

mountaineerrideThe Mountaineer Country Ride offers more riding and fewer attractions. You will travel along 133 miles of West Virginia's most scenic roads. Take off from Clarksburg and make your first stop at Coopers Rock State Forest. Here you can do some quick small game hunting, fishing or simply take in the amazing views. If you feel the need for an adrenaline rush, then swing into Cheat River for whitewater rafting. Some of the attractions along this route include the second oldest covered bridge in West Virginia.

The Phillipe Covered Bridge is still in use and a part of this trail. Adaland Mansion is on the National Registry of Historic Places and currently offers tours of its old world charm. Catch a Civil War re-enactment at Laurel Hill Battlefield or take advantage of the 330 miles of hiking at Alleghany Trails. Aside from all of these historic places you will catch up on the wondrous beauty that exists in this mountain filled area.
