Mountain Lakes Tour
For 163 miles of tight turns and long sweepers take a ride on the Mountain Lakes Tour. The route starts by heading out on State Route 19 in Flatwoods, West Virginia. As you are enjoying the breathtaking views be sure to stop for some quality live entertainment at Mountains State Camping Theater. One of the most interesting stops along this route is at the Trans-Alleghany Lunatic Asylum where you can sign up for a tour or, if you are brave enough, an overnight adventure.
Check out even more rugged terrain around the Burnsville Dam or drive through the historic Burnsville Township. There is camping available along the way at Lake Kanawha River where you can also enjoy catching bluegill and small mouth bass.
There are a multitude of artisans in Lewis County including Appalachian Glass that should be visited. Watch the elevation changes as you head into Cedar Creek State Park and then take a tour of Jacksons Mill – home of Colonel Edward Jackson of the Revolutionary War. On Friday and Saturday nights you can check out the local go-kart races at Mountain State Motor Speedway and rest your head at Bee Run Campground. The last stop will be at the Mountaineer Military Museum before you head back along the sprawling countryside’s towards home.
