memorialrunpictureWhile scenic mountain views are the only claim for Belington, it is worth stopping in for the 2010 Mikey Hart Memorial Poker Run. This small West Virginia town hosts the annual ride to help raise money for the Mikey Hart Memorial Scholarship Fund. Area students that wish to pursue education in fire science or paramedic training is eligible to receive the scholarship. It is also open to those that are children of firefighters, no matter what field of study they pursue.

The Mikey Hart Memorial Poker Run will start at the Belington Volunteer Fire Department on Saturday, June 12th. Bikers can register starting at 10am for $10. In 2009 the fundraiser drew over two hundred bikers to the event. The ride will start with a round of poker, prizes and great food. After the Belington Volunteer Fire Department, motorcyclists will head to Junior Fire Department, Elkins Fire Department then Buckhannon Fire Department. After more poker and prizes at those stops, riders will head to Bridgeport Fire Department and finally, Philippi Fire Department. The Mikey Hart Memorial Poker Run will conclude at the Belington VFW Park where the finally poker prizes will be awarded. There will be great food from local restaurants, live music, games for the kids and of course some ice cold brewskies.

When traveling through West Virginia it is worthwhile to stop in Belington. You can enjoy some live music and great food at the local bars as well as enjoy the perfect camping experience at nearby campgrounds. Of course, riding for education at the Mikey Hart Memorial Poker Run is the cherry on the top of the Belington sundae.
