What began as a small motorcycle salvage business in the late 1970’s has grown to a well recognized, highly reputed brand name in the Motorsport world. Rick’s Motorsport Electrics offers a full line of charging and starting systems and electrical ignition components for Asian and European street bikes, ATV/off road, snowmobiles, and watercraft. The company goal is to provide customers with a high quality cost effective part, backed up by quick, friendly, and dependable service. Rick’s Motorsport offers a one year replacement warranty on all of their products, excluding CDI boxes. A warranty on electrical parts is a welcome surprise to customers, but company president Rick Shaw knows its true value. “We only use the best materials for our parts, and we believe in them. If one of our pieces proves to be defective, we have no problem replacing it.” Rick’s Motorsport Electrics is very proud of their reputation in the industry and continues to make every effort to remain the source for high quality, cost effective alternatives to OEM electrical pieces.
One of the reasons people find it easy to do business with Rick’s Motorsport is their attention to customer service. When you call in to Rick’s for a part or technical help, a real person answers the phone! “We know our customers appreciate that they get a person on the phone when they call in,” says Shaw. Employees at Rick’s Motorsport Electrics are knowledgeable about the product and willing to help. There is a full time technical staff to support the pieces they sell.
Almost all of their parts are direct plug-in, bolt-on pieces for an easy install. “We try to make it as easy as possible for the do-it-yourself mechanic,” says company president Rick Shaw. “But we also recognize the need for the occasional universal style piece for an obscure machine.” Most of the parts that Rick’s Motorsport sells are brand new pieces. However, they still rebuild rotors, stators, and starter motors that they cannot manufacture new. This allows for custom jobs for customers that have nowhere else to go. “We understand people are repairing their old vehicles because it’s more economical than buying a whole new machine,” says Shaw.
Rick’s industry knowledge and technical background come from his history in the business. Company president Rick Shaw was a skilled mechanic and always dreamed of opening his own business. His love for motorcycles and natural mechanical ability lead him to open a small motorcycle repair and salvage shop in 1978. As the service department grew, he realized the need for a cost effective alternative to OEM electrical parts. “I noticed a pattern of certain bikes with the same electrical problem,” Shaw recalls. “I said to myself, if I had ten of these parts in stock, I could sell all ten.” So Shaw began rebuilding stators, rotors and starter motors for his customers and the business grew from there. From the beginning, the company has strived to supply customers and dealers with a quality product at an affordable price.
Rick’s Motorsport Electrics now has over 5000 dealers in their database and numerous retail customers.

The company’s 30 years of experience and custom rebuilding combined with industry research led to the production of the Hot Shot Series from Rick’s Motorsport Electrics. The Hot Shot Series is their high performance product line that was
developed seven years ago. This product line includes high output stators, heavy duty rectifier/regulators, modified CDI boxes, and high output charging kits. The idea of the Hot Shot Series performance line came about through a combination of industry research and listening to customers’ needs. “We look at all the articles on the new ATV models, research technical articles, etc to find weaknesses in their systems that we can improve on,” Amanda says.
Rick’s Motorsport Electrics is continually developing new parts and adding to their line of products. “To stay on top of the market, you have to constantly offer something new,” says Shaw. Some of their recent projects include a high output charging kit for the Suzuki Hayabusa, a modern charging kit for the older Honda CB/CL350s, and a GL1500 high output alternator. They are also expanding their ATV line by offering high output performance parts, including the Yamaha YFZ450 charging kit and Rhino stator.
