Five Commonly Asked Questions about Motorcycle Insurance
But how much do you know about the insurance that protects you while you’re out there with the wind in your face?
Wearing the correct riding gear will not only make your next run more comfortable, but it will also help protect you as well. ATV riding can be fun, but it can also be dangerous. That's why we've together a list of riding gear that can help protect you from head to toe.
Helmet
It goes without saying that you should always wear a helmet when operating your ATV. When looking at helmets, you'll want to make sure it meets at least one of two different standards – the Department of Transportation rating (DOT) and the Snell Standard. The Snell Standard is a helmet rating that goes above and beyond the requirements set by the DOT and is named for a sports car racer who died of head injuries in the late 1950s.
Goggles
Next to the helmet, goggles are probably one of the most important pieces of riding gear. Make sure you try your goggles on with your helmet before heading out to make sure they fit securely. You'll want to make sure there aren't any gaps where dust and sand can sneak in and that they are properly ventilated to help prevent fogging.
Clothing
You should always wear long-sleeves and long pants when driving your ATV no matter what season you are riding in. This will help protect your skin from the elements – (branches, bugs, roost, etc.) when riding. Off-highway pants with kneepads, jersey, chest/shoulder protectors, are also good types of clothing to look into for protection in case of an accident.
Hand Gear
Wearing gloves will not only help improve your grip, but they will also keep your hands cool in the summer and warm in the winter. Gloves will also help protect your hands in case you have a spill.
Foot Gear
Over-the-ankle boots with low heels will give your feet, ankles, and lower legs the best protection. The over-the-ankle style boot will protect your ankle from twisting and your lower leg from burns and scratches. The heel will help keep your foot from slipping off the pegs.
