When Jason Kidd and his team at Flyrite Choppers in Austin, Texas finish building the custom bike frames they’re known for, nothing goes to waste.
Flyrite has just released five new chopper bars -- naked steel bent into clean geometric lines (maybe best described as petroglyphic) – that were products of a waste-not-want-not philosophy. Instead of tossing the extra steel bits around the shop, or sending them to the scrap heap, the four-man team kicked around ideas that evolved into the killer new line. It’s inspired in equal parts by the beauty of classic bikes and the sleekness of modern design.
The bars are wrought from 1” DOM mild steel, which means they’re strong, seamless, and easy to chrome. (For the design-obsessed, it’s the seamless element that makes these bars scream). Kidd said they’ve so far had the most demand for the Jail Bar model, selling on their website for $69.
What started as a way to keep the shop floor clean will no doubt transform into a hugely successful product of its own. Flyrite could definitely have you imagining your custom chopper from the bars up.
