Chains and sprockets are expensive and exposed, so chain lubrication is a vital part of your overall motorcycle maintenance regime. In fact, other than checking tire pressure, it may be a motorcyclist’s most frequent chore. I lube my motorcycle chains every 300 – 500 miles.
Finding a chain lube that meets your needs can be a daunting task. Thin, oily lubes can fly off, leaving your bike’s wheel, swing arm, and engine case messy. Chain wax stays put, but can be hard to apply and can build up on the chain.
I have found Bel-Ray Super Clean to be a good all-around option. It is a heavy-bodied lube that stays on the chain extremely well. It also stays relatively clean. By this, I mean that it does not attract excessive road grime and dirt. I have sampled Super Clean in both street and dual-sport applications with good results in both.
Bel-Ray Super Clean is safe for all variations of O-rings. It is applied like most other spray lubes. A plastic tube directs the spray to the outer chain plates and the internal rollers.
The only possible downside to Super Clean is that it is white when applied. If you have one of those fancy anodized chains, it is going to end up white.
