The Roadgear Magnetic Sport Tank Bag: “da bag” is all you’ll ever need

Olaf Wolff

Roadgear Tank BagBefore positioning Roadgear’s magnetic sport tank bag on my bike I first had to remove the existing bag – a bulbous, overly aerodynamically shaped number that I could never find enough crap to fill sufficiently.

After whittling down the contents to only those fundamentals I’d ever realistically need, it all fit into the sport tank bag, or da-bag, as I now refer to it, with gobs of room to spare.

Granted there’s a place for a large tank bag when you hit the road for a few weeks, but for most of us, how often does that happen? Roadgear’s sport bag is damn-near an industry standard for a no-frills, all business tank bag. For everyday commuting or weekend trips, da-bag is pretty much all you’ll ever need.

There’s a zippered body section that expands the bag capacity from 11 liters, to 14, when more room is a must, and there are two exterior side pockets with Velcro closures for holding quick-grab items.

There’s a pocket under the map-flap that can be used to hold the optional rain cover, and the removable map pocket converts into a two-pocket “shoulder tote,” for what the advertisement claims, adds “unmatched versatility.” Okay, it’s good that the map pocket can be carried along when you’re off the bike, but by all means resist the urge to use it as a shoulder tote.  It’s practical yes – but it should never be worn as a pretty man-purse.

The inside of the da-bag is lined with closed-cell foam and there’s a handy key hook included. The anti-skid Toughtek® base and four magnetic contact points make this bag a perfect throw it on and be gone kind of affair. No worries about it coming off either – this baby stays in place until you’re ready to take it off. There’s also a built-in carrying handle for when you do take it along with you.

Another thing I like about da-bag is the choice of colors. Roadgear has nearly all the basic paint schemes covered. It’s nice to place this thoroughly functional blue bag on my blue gas tank.
